A Melita, Manitoba man has recently been charged after RCMP officers located and arrested him on an outstanding warrant for two sexual interference offences.
On February 22, just before 8pm, RCMP officers went to a residence in Melita to arrest a man wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant. Upon arrival at the home, the suspect, a 36-year-old male, was informed that he was under arrest.
Police say that the suspect resisted arrest and a struggle ensued between the suspect and two officers, resulting in one officer deploying a taser. The suspect continued to fight before he eventually made his way inside the home and barricaded himself in a room.
Additional officers then arrived at the location, including the RCMP Emergency Response Team, Containment Team, Police Dog Services, Deloraine and Turtle Mountain RCMP.
Shortly after 11:30pm the same day, the suspect exited the residence and was safely taken into custody.
RCMP report that in addition to the sexual interference offences, the suspect is facing charges of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, disarming a police officer, and mischief under $5,000.
