The Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit (MIVOAU), an integrated team consisting of officers from the Manitoba RCMP and Winnipeg Police Service, recently travelled to the Interlake as part of ongoing efforts to arrest prolific and violent offenders who have outstanding warrants for their arrest.

Assisted by members from RCMP detachments in Ashern and Lundar, MIVAOU arrested the following individuals:

  • Joshua Maytwayashing, a 39-year-old male from Lake St. Martin First Nation, was apprehended in Ashern on the strength of a warrant for assault and failing to comply with conditions of a release order. He was subsequently released from custody on a release order with a pending court date.
  • Matthew Bedard, a 40-year-old male from Eriksdale, was arrested at his residence on the strength of two warrants – including one from Selkirk RCMP for sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual exploitation and administering a noxious substance. The other warrant of arrest originated from Sicamous, B.C., for sexual assault and sexual Interference. Bedard has been remanded in custody. He will be escorted back to Sicamous.

Additionally, Lundar RCMP arrested a third individual in a traffic stop on Highway 417 in Lake Manitoba First Nation. MIVOAU had been looking for 26-year-old Ivory Maytwayashing earlier that day. She was arrested on the strength of a warrant for theft of a motor vehicle and failing to comply with conditions of a release order. She was remanded in custody.

MIVOAU continues to work closely with community leadership throughout Manitoba to target violent and prolific offenders while enhancing police presence, creating safer streets for all Manitobans. These short police interventions have positive impacts on the safety and security of these communities.
