The Manitoba government is hosting a provincewide hiring forum to help qualified professionals enter the health-care workforce faster by connecting nurses and health-care aides with employers.
“This is about making it easier for nurses and health-care aides who are ready to work to connect directly with employers who need them,” said Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara. “We know there are qualified nurses in Manitoba who want to contribute their skills but face barriers to entering the workforce. This forum will help remove those barriers, support nurses to transition into practice and strengthen care for patients across the province.”
The event will bring together health-care employers from across Manitoba to support recruitment efforts and match attendees with available positions.
The Make it in Manitoba: Nurse and Health-Care Aide Hiring Forum will take place April 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg. The one-day event aims to bring together nurses directly with hiring managers from across Manitoba, including opportunities in rural and northern communities.
At the forum, attendees will be able to:
- meet with employers;
- participate in on-site interviews for current nursing opportunities where applicable; and
- learn more about available roles in high-need clinical areas.
Nurses will also be able to explore programs and supports that can help them transition into practice or advance their careers, including the Nurse Re-Entry Program (NREP) at Red River College Polytech.
The forum is part of the Manitoba government’s broader effort to recruit and retain health-care workers by creating clearer pathways into the system and supporting nurses and health-care aides at different stages of their careers, the minister noted.
The event will also support nurses licensed through labour mobility who may require additional clinical experience to transition into practice. Through initiatives such as NREP, nurses can receive training and supervised experience to help them safely and confidently return to the workforce.
Employers from Manitoba’s service delivery organizations will be in attendance, with a focus on matching candidates to high-need areas and supporting long-term retention through structured onboarding and mentorship.
