Steinbach RCMP are reporting that an arrest has been made in connection to an aggravated assault incident that led to the recent death of a 49-year-old in the Rural Municipality (RM) of Ste Anne.
On May 3, 2026, Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services took carriage of an investigation into the death of 49-year-old Cameron Huley that had occurred a day prior.
Police investigation determined that there had been a social gathering outside a residence in the RM of Ste. Anne. An altercation ensued amongst those present, which resulted in the victim receiving an injury that later caused his death in hospital. It was noted that the suspect and victim were guests at the residence where the incident took place, and were not previously known to each other.
RCMP report that on May 12, 46-year-old Jeff Wyness, from the RM of Ste Anne, was arrested in relation to this death. He has since been charged with one count of manslaughter and released on conditions with a pending court date.
Steinbach RCMP, along with RCMP Major Crime Services, continue to investigate.
