Poplar River RCMP are reporting that a 6-year-old girl, who had recently gone missing from a local residence, was found deceased after an extensive search of the area.

On May 16, 2026, at 5:52am, Poplar River RCMP responded to a report of a missing 6-year-old girl. police soon after learned that the father had woken up at his residence and noticed that the front door was wide-open. After searching the residence for his daughter, he determined that she was missing.

Officers, fire department, family and other community members began searching for the missing child immediately. As the search continued, community boats were launched in the water, the Band deployed their drone, as well, local search and rescue volunteers assisted with the search.

RCMP report that at 10:30am, the missing girl was located on the south side of the Nanowin River and pronounced deceased.
