Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services is reporting that a large amount of cash was recently seized resulting from a traffic stop that occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway.
On July 31, 2026, at approximately 8:50pm, a Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services officer was patrolling westbound on Highway 1 when a fast-moving vehicle was observed heading east. Radar recorded the eastbound vehicle at 129 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.
Police say that the vehicle was stopped as it reached the City of Brandon, and investigation led to a search of the vehicle. During the search, police located multiple bags containing large amounts of Canadian currency. Both the driver and passenger were subsequently arrested and transported to the Minnedosa RCMP detachment.
Members noted that the estimated total amount of cash located in the vehicle was approximately $970,000.
RCMP report that 22-year-old Alireza Haghood, from Toronto, Ontario, along with 44-year-old Ahmad Ahmadi, from Stouffville, Ontario, are both facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking over $5,000. Ahmadi was released on a release order and Haghood remains in custody in Brandon.
Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services continue to investigate this incident.
