Pembina Valley RCMP are reporting that four suspects were recently arrested and charged in connection to a theft incident that occurred at a rural property in the Rural Municipality (RM) of Dufferin.

On August 15, 2026, at approximately 10:45pm, Pembina Valley RCMP responded to a report of a theft in progress occurring in the RM of Dufferin.

Investigation determined that four suspects had attended a rural private property earlier in the day and then returned that evening in two vehicles. Both vehicles were later confirmed to have been stolen from Watrous, Saskatchewan.

Police say that the property owner, a 66-year-old male, was alerted to the activity by a motion camera and went to the area. He then observed suspects transferring fuel from a portable container into one of the stolen vehicles.

The property owner, who had a firearm, confronted the suspects at which time he fired shots towards the vehicles. Three of the suspects remained at the scene until officers arrived and took them into custody. A fourth suspect fled the scene in the other vehicle, which was located the next morning in a canola field a few kilometres away.

Members noted that various items, believed to have been stolen from the property, were found in the back of the truck.

RCMP report that all four suspects are facing multiple charges related to this incident.
