The Southeast Event Centre in Steinbach is inviting families from across the region to join in the fun at SCU’s Halloween for Hunger, a free community celebration taking place in the SCU Gymnasium and Hall on October 31, 2026.
This family-friendly event combines Halloween excitement with community spirit, encouraging guests to bring a non-perishable food item for the food drive collection if they are able. While admission is completely free, every donated item will help support local families in need.
The event will feature a dedicated Sensory-Friendly Hour from 3pm to 4pm, followed by the public event from 4pm to 6pm. This special early hour is designed to provide a welcoming and comfortable environment for children and families who may benefit from reduced stimulation.
“Our goal is to create a Halloween celebration where every child feels welcome,” says Michelle Sawatzky-Koop, Director of Communications, Marketing and Sales for the Southeast Event Centre. “From sensory-friendly experiences and creative activities to carnival games and memorable photo opportunities, there will be something for everyone to enjoy while supporting an important community food drive.”
Visitors will also find a welcome desk with food collection bins, as well as a goody bag station where the first 350 children will receive a special Halloween treat package.
The Southeast Event Centre and SCU invite everyone to come dressed in their Halloween costumes, enjoy an afternoon of free family fun, and help make a difference in the community through the annual SCU’s Halloween for Hunger food drive.
