The Manitoba government is launching an independent external review of the provincial Child and Family Services (CFS) funding and governance model to help strengthen the system, improve transparency and support better outcomes for children, youth and families.

As of April 1, child welfare and public health systems in Manitoba will be ready to more effectively and proactively connect mothers with supports, and will no longer issue birth alerts for high-risk expectant mothers.

To help ensure its programs and services will meet the needs of Manitobans now and into the future, the Manitoba government is implementing a transformation strategy focused on improving outcomes for vulnerable Manitobans.

The number of children in the care of Manitoba Child and Family Services (CFS) has decreased for the first time in the last 15 years, according the department’s year-end numbers.
