The Director and CEO of VIDO-InterVac says the biggest challenge in developing its new protein subunit COVID-19 vaccine has been the need to have the manufacturing of the materials for testing carried out at other facilities.

The Manitoba government has agreed to purchase two million doses of a new, Canadian-researched and Manitoba-produced mRNA COVID-19 vaccine currently undergoing clinical trials to ensure Manitobans and Canadians have access to a secure supply of a promising new vaccine to protect them against current and future variants of the virus.

In order to build capacity and prepare for an unprecedented immunization campaign, the province has once again expanded the professions that will be able to protect Manitobans by administering the COVID-19 vaccine, Health and Seniors Care Minister Heather Stefanson announced.
