On February 28, 2011, just before 11pm, the Little Grand Rapids RCMP Detachment were dispatched to a home on Little Grand Rapids FN for a complaint of a disturbance.
RCMP report that during the course of the investigation, a deceased male was located in the residence.
RCMP have identified the deceased as 46-year-old John Moar, of Little Grand Rapids FN. An autopsy was scheduled for March 2, 2011 in Winnipeg. The death is being investigated as a homicide.
RCMP investigators have arrested the victims son, 18-year-old Trevor John Owens, also a resident of Little Grand Rapids FN. He has been charged with second degree murder and remains in police custody. Owens is scheduled to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court on Friday, March 4, 2011.
Members of the RCMP Major Crime Services, Winnipeg Forensic Identification Services and members of the Little Grand Rapids RCMP Detachment continue to investigate.
This is the first homicide to occur within RCMP jurisdiction in 2011.
