The Steinbach Fire Department is all smiles these days as the newest member of the family finally arrived this week.
L311 is the Fire Department’s new ladder truck, purchased from Whistler, B.C. at the end of 2010. The truck was repainted, outfitted with new gear, and had most of the lights replaced at Keewatin Truck Service in Wininpeg.
Understandably, the most notable feature of the new truck is its 95 foot extension ladder and bucket, which will enable firefighters to better respond to fire calls in apartment buildings and other higher structures, such as churches and schools.
In the next couple of weeks, the Fire Department will receive training on proper operation of the new ladder truck before using it in response to fire calls.
The truck was purchased and retrofitted at a cost of about $350,000.
