Manitoba’s winter festivals are a great opportunity to enjoy the province’s winter wonders, Culture, Heritage, Tourism and Sport Minister Eric Robinson said.

“Winter festivals around the province provide many options for winter recreation,” said Robinson.  “Festival du Voyageur and the Trappers Festival in The Pas offer unique ways to get active and sample the cultural treasures of our province, as do all the festivals.”

This year, Festival du Voyageur celebrates its 40th anniversary with snow sculptures, music and food.  In the Wheat City, the Lieutenant-Governor’s Winter Festival featured tastes from around the world during what has been called the best weekend in Brandon.  Events at the Trappers Festival take place at many locations in and around The Pas and include dogsled racing, ice-sculpture lessons, chainsaw contests and dances.

The Community Festivals Support Program will provide $47,520 in support to winter community festivals which are signature annual events in their communities. This year, the Leaf Rapids Winter Carnival is receiving funding for the first time.

Winter festivals supported by the provincial government include the Northern Manitoba Trappers’ Festival in The Pas, Canadian Power Toboggan Championships in Beausejour, Beaver Days in Falcon Lake, Cormorant Métis Days, Brochet Caribou Festival, Wabowden Winter Festival, Lockport Children’s Winter Festival, Festival Manipogo in St. Laurent, Grand Marais Winter Family Festival, Lundar Winter Carnival and the Lieutenant-Governors’ Winter Festival in Brandon.
