Steinbach’s Fire Department participated in an emergency scenario on Monday at Steinbach Towing’s compound, where a bus accident involving two other vehicles was simulated.
Deputy Fire Chief, Don Smith, explained that practice scenarios such as these are just another way to practice their response skills and to find ways to improve and become more efficient.
The scenario allowed firefighters to practice the unique challenges that are present in a rescue situation involving a bus. As well, the scenario provided practice for mass casualty situations which is important as an accident of this type instantly creates more complex logistics and support needs.
Smith highlighted the mutual cooperation of other agencies in the exercise. The Kleefeld Fire Department participated in the scenario and the bus, donated by Ron Loeppky of Fairway Ford, was stabilized by Marty’s Towing during the exercise.
