Lorette Curling Club members raise money for Cancer Care Manitoba, supporting fellow curler, Joe Aiello.

On Saturday, April 16, 2011, the Lorette Curling Club raised over $500 for Cancer Care Manitoba. “The Lorette Curling Club wanted to support for a fellow curler, Joe Aiello” says Nancy Brommell, president.

Joe, a morning DJ on 92 CITI FM, is a curler and a great supporter of curling.  His wife recently died of cancer.  “So at our Awards Celebration, we passed the hat, and when I got it back, there was over $500.00 in it,” says Brommell who figures that when it comes to cancer, probably everyone in the room has been affected by this disease.  “With all the proceeds going to support cancer research and programs in Manitoba, people like the Lorette Curling Club curlers are very generous.”

The Lorette Curling Club also just got word that their $5,000 grant application to the Canadian Curling Association was approved.  “This summer, our curling rocks will be refurbished,” says Brommell.

Last season, the Lorette Curling Club worked diligently to improve the quality of the curling ice at the facility.

“The quality of our curling ice has improved dramatically,” says Brommell.  “So combining quality ice and the improvements we will make to the curling rocks this summer, curlers will enjoy fantastic curling conditions next season at the Lorette Curling Club.”

Congratulations to Norbert Kintscher who won the draw for the 42 inch TV which was also made that evening.

Proceeds from the ticket sales of the TV will go to supporting the Junior leagues and promoting curling as a sport of all ages. “Curling is a life-long sport, and our goal is to increase the number of RM of Tache residents that choose to become curlers at the Lorette Curling Club. Curling is good for your health and a great way to make new friends in the community,” says Brommell.
