On April 27, 2011, at 5 pm, RCMP Selkirk Detachment and local EMS were dispatched to a single motorcycle collision in the 5600 Block of Henderson Highway.

The 26-year-old male rider from Winnipeg was traveling on Henderson Highway when he lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected. A witness at the scene reported seeing the motorcycle “go flying through the air”.

It appears that the motorcycle experienced some type of mechanical failure rendering the motorcycle uncontrollable.

The rider, who was wearing a helmet and a riding jacket, was checked by EMS at the scene, but walked away from the collision relatively unscathed.

The northbound lane of Henderson Highway in the 5600 Block was closed to traffic for about an hour.

The RCMP would like to remind riders that wearing a helmet is mandatory. Of note, wearing proper apparel when riding can make a great difference in the event of a collision.
