Manitoba Family Services and Consumer Affairs advises that, to ensure recipients receive their cheques on time, the provincial government will distribute employment and income assistance (EIA) cheques at established and new distribution centres.

In Winnipeg there are 10 locations where participants can pick up cheques. There are 11 rural and northern office locations where clients can pick up their cheques.

EIA participants who normally receive their cheques by Canada Post mail must collect their cheques from their designated pickup site. Cheques will be ready for pickup starting Wednesday May 25.

Pickup sites will be open:

• Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and
• Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Participants who cannot pick up their cheque are asked to contact their case worker to make alternate arrangements. Participants must have two pieces of identification when picking up cheques.

If a postal strike does not occur, EIA cheques will still be distributed by distribution centres for the month of May.

EIA participants not using the automatic bank deposit system are asked to sign up for this service.

Any further questions or concerns about mail service or cheque pickup arrangements may be directed to the Government of Manitoba Citizen’s Inquiry Line at 945-3744 in Winnipeg, 1 866 626 4862 (toll-free) or the government website at www.gov.mb.ca.

The province distributes approximately 32,000 EIA cheques each month.
