Two Winnipeg men have been arrested after police seized a quantity of marijuana in their possession during a traffic stop last week in the RM of Victoria.

At approximately 10:30pm on June 22, 2011, while investigating a Highway Traffic Act offence, Treherne RCMP seized a quantity of marijuana.

Police on patrol observed a 2006 Mazda 3 on Highway 2 in the RM of Victoria, Manitoba. The vehicle was stopped as the driver was exceeding the posted speed limit.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the two male occupants in the vehicle were in possession of approximately 2.5 lbs of marijuana. The total value was approximately $7,500.

RCMP report that two Winnipeg men, ages 20 and 22, were arrested for possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Both have been released from police custody and are scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie Provincial Court on August 8, 2011.

Police continue to investigate.
