Fatal airplane crash in Pukatawagan, Manitoba.

On July 4, 2011, at about 4pm, Pukatawagan RCMP were dispatched to the scene of a fatal airplane crash in Pukatawagan, Manitoba.

RCMP report that initial investigation indicates that a commercial aircraft had gone off the end of the runway during takeoff and caught on fire.

There were 8 passengers and a pilot on board, there is one confirmed fatality.

Police say there are no confirmed reports of other injuries at this time.

RCMP along with partner agencies are investigating.

Update 07/05/11 11:01am

RCMP Pukatawagan members remain at the scene of the plane crash. The investigation will continue lead by the Transportation Safety Board upon their arrival expected today.

The deceased passenger has been identified as a 56-year-old man from Opaskwayak Cree Nation. His name will not be released.

RCMP have been informed that the remainder of the occupants on board of the plane have been transported to Winnipeg for medical treatment relating to non-life threatening injuries.
