The search for two canoeists that went missing last week after their canoe capsized on the river downstream from the Notigi Dam, has been ongoing by way of boat, shoreline search and helicopter.

The search is being conducted by RCMP members from both Thompson and Nelson House Detachments, assisted by Manitoba Conservation Officers, Manitoba Hydro staff and civilian volunteers.

On Friday, July 15, the canoe was located approximately 3.5 miles downstream on the Rat River.

On July 17, in the morning, an officer from Manitoba Conservation located the body of one of the two canoeists missing on the Rat River. The body was found near the Notigi Dam, close to where the canoe had capsized.

A tentative identification has been done of the body recovered. It is believed that the body is that of one of the canoeists, a 42-year-old Thompson man.

A post mortem will be conducted in Winnipeg.

The search continues.
