On September 2, 2011, at about 1pm, Powerview RCMP Detachment along with the Victoria Beach Police Service were dispatched to a suspected drowning at Albert Beach on Lake Winnipeg.

RCMP attended and learned that a 53-year-old man from Winnipeg was canoeing with his teenage step-son on the lake when the canoe capsized. The young man was able to swim to shore, however, the 53-year-old man, who was not wearing a life jacket at the time, could not be found.

On September 3, 2011 at about 1 pm, RCMP Underwater Recovery Team members from both Manitoba and Saskatchewan attended Albert Beach and located and recovered the body of the 53-year-old man from Winnipeg in proximity of the area where he was last seen.

The investigation continues.
