On February 28, 2009 at about 6:00 p.m., the body of a 20-year-old Lac Brochet First Nation woman was found near a snowmobile trail within the community of Lac Brochet.

The deceased had been reported missing to RCMP in the early morning of February 28, 2009. The RCMP are investigating this matter as a suspicious death.

An autopsy will be held in Winnipeg. The date that is yet to be determined.

The RCMP Winnipeg Serious Crimes Unit along with RCMP Thompson Major Crime Unit, Winnipeg and Thompson Forensic Identification Sections along with members of the Thompson and Lynn Lake RCMP detachments continue to investigate.

Update 03/09/09 9:15am:

An autopsy was completed on March 4, 2009 at the Winnipeg Health Science Center. The deceased has been identified as Charmaine Dettanikkeaze.  

The cause of death has been determined to be hypothermia. The death is no longer considered suspicious in nature.
