On September 27, 2011, at about 2:30pm, Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP were dispatched to the Ste. Rose du Lac Hospital to respond to a complaint of an assault with a weapon.

On arrival, police were advised that an adult male patient had been threatening a nurse with a weapon and demanding drugs.

Hospital staff had intervened and the suspect released the nurse and fled the hospital. Hospital staff followed the suspect but he was able to elude them in a residential area.

Area residents advised police that the suspect was hiding under a house deck near the hospital. The suspect attempted to flee and was apprehended by police.

Police say that the nurse was unharmed and no drugs were obtained.

A 21-year-old man from Regina, Saskatchewan, is facing numerous charges including extortion, forcible confinement, uttering threats, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon and resisting arrest.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Dauphin Provincial Court.

Police continue to investigate.
