A St. Laurent youth is dead after his dirt bike collided with a car in St. Laurent this past week.

On October 7, 2011, just before 8pm, Lundar and Ashern RCMP Detachments, as well as local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of as fatal dirt bike and motor vehicle collision in St. Laurent, Manitoba.

Initial investigation indicates that a dirt bike had been in collision with a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier on a roadway in St. Laurent.

The driver of the dirt bike, a 16-year-old male from St. Laurent, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name will not be released. The driver of the Cavalier, a 45-year-old man from St. Laurent was not injured.

An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst will be assisting with the investigation.

Police say that the driver of the dirt bike was believed to have been wearing a helmet. The dirt bike was not equipped with a headlight and visibility was reduced due to darkness at the time of the collision.

Alcohol is not considered to be a factor in the collision at this time.

Police continue to investigate.
