The community of Grunthal will soon have a new fire hall now that the RM of Hanover has approved the plan.

On February 25, the municipality held a conditional use hearing to discuss the construction of a new fire hall in the community.

According to Reeve Stan Toews, there was no objection to the municipality’s plan to construct a new fire hall along Main Street in Grunthal.

As a result, council decided to approve the conditional use, and will prepare to move into the next phase of the project.

Toews says that the next phase will be design and then the project will go to tender. While council hopes that the project will not cost more than $600,000, the actual costs and impact to the community will not be known until it reaches tender.

The new fire hall will be next to the Ste. Anne Coop station, along Main Street on the east end of Grunthal.

The RM of Hanover hopes to begin construction this spring and ready by the fall.
