The City of Steinbach has recently released a list of accomplishments and statistics for the year 2011 and is as follows:

• The City began the year with a road network of 110 km and added approximately 2.5 km by December.

• The Steinbach Fire Department responded to 314 emergency calls during the year. Fifty-five of those were for fires and 122 were for Motor Vehicle Accidents.

• The City completed its largest capital works project in history – the Wastewater Lagoon Expansion.

• The zamboni at the TG Smith Center flooded the rinks about 3,000 times.

• The 2011 total value of all property and improvements in the City was assessed at a market value of over $1.2 billion.

• The Steinbach Aquatic Centre taught about 4,198 water safety lessons while also keeping over 72,000 pool patrons safe.

• The City’s underground water pipe network grew by about 2 km to reach a total of 78.5 km by the end of the year. The sewer pipe network is even larger, reaching a total length of 93.5 km by the end of 2011.

• Total financial transactions for the year exceeded $37 million.

• The Steinbach Landfill received and handled over 28,000 tonnes of solid waste during the year. This was accomplished by the passage of 30,862 vehicles through the gate. Our tonnage has dropped 13.7% since 2006 which means our community is doing a great job of waste diversion!

• The annual Christmas light display on City streets includes 500 strings containing 22,000 light bulbs.

• The Parks and Recreation department mowed and maintained 225 acres of green space during the year.

• The summer beautification program set up and maintained 350 hanging flower baskets on City streets and tended to another 900 dozen plants and flowers during the year.

• The City approved nearly 350 building permits in the year worth over $93.5 million in new construction. This included 249 dwelling units of which 143 were single or two-family buildings.

• The Planning and Zoning Department conducted 4,115 inspections and plan reviews throughout the year.

• The Waterworks Department completed 18 emergency watermain repairs throughout the year.
