A 35-year-old Oxford House man is facing arson charges in connection to a residential fire that occurred last month.

On January 25, 2012, at 6:20am, Oxford House RCMP Detachment were called out and dispatched to a residential fire in Oxford House.

At 6:40am, members arrived on scene where they found two individuals outside a fully engulfed house fire. One adult male was transported by the medical van, since his injuries appeared more severe due to the fire. He was medivaced to Winnipeg where he remains in critical condition. The other individual, identified as Wilfred Chubb, was transported by police truck to expedite his medical treatment at the local nursing station.

An investigation into the fire commenced by the Oxford House RCMP assisted with the RCMP Serious Crime Unit, the RCMP Thompson Major Crime Unit and the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner.

It has since been determined that Wilfred Chubb started the fire in the house causing serious fire related injuries to the other individual during a house party with about six people in the home at the time.

On January 26, 35-year-old Wilfred Chubb of Oxford House was charged with arson causing bodily harm. He was remanded into custody to appear in Thompson Court on January 30, 2012.

The other occupants vacated the premise and no other injuries were reported to the RCMP. No estimates of damages are available. The house was completely destroyed by the fire.

The investigation continues and further charges may be pending.
