On March 20, 2012, at about 9am, Stonewall RCMP Detachment, local area Fire Department and EMS, responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 7 and Highway 67 in the RM of Rockwood.

Officers learned that a semi-trailer hauling grain rear-ended a pick-up truck that had been stopped at the red light in the northbound lane of Highway 7. The impact of the collision resulted in both vehicles going right through the intersections of Highway 67, narrowly missing an eastbound vehicle.

The driver of the pick up truck, a 26-year-old Winnipeg resident, was extricated from his vehicle and transported by ambulance to a Winnipeg Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi, a 57-year-old resident of Minnesota, was not injured in the collision, but has been charged for careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

Alcohol, speed and road conditions are not considered contributing factors in the collision. Police say that there were no passengers in either of the vehicles.

RCMP would like to remind motorists to be vigilant behind the wheel.
