RCMP have begun an investigation after skeletal remains were found in the RM of St. Clements yesterday afternoon.

On March 31, 2012, shortly after 5pm, Selkirk RCMP members were dispatched to the Highway 4 bridge north of Selkirk near the Red River in the RM of St. Clements.

Police say that skeletal remains, suspected to be human, were found by a local area man who was riding his ATV at the time.

The investigation is proceeding with the assistance of the Medical Examiners office, the RCMP Forensic Identification Section and the RCMP Serious Crime Unit.

Update 04/05/12 11:01am

An autopsy was completed on April 4, 2012, and the remains found have been positively identified to a 64-year-old female resident of the RM of Brokenhead, Manitoba. Foul play is not suspected.
