On March 21st at about 8:12 p.m., Wabowden RCMP were informed of a two vehicle collision on Highway 373, 15 km east of the junction 373 and Highway 6.

Investigation revealed that a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 53-year old man from Mafeking, Manitoba was west bound on Highway 373 approaching a turn off to a construction campsite and making a right turn(south) when a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck with four occupants from Cross Lake, traveling west on Highway 373, collided head-on with the 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck.

The driver, front and back passengers of the 2004 Chevrolet were all ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the 2004 Chevrolet pick up truck and the front passenger were transported to hospital in critical condition. The front passenger a 53-year old male was transported to Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the 2004 Chevrolet remains at Thompson General Hospital overnight and will be transported later today to The Health Science Center, Winnipeg, for further treatment. The other passenger a 39-year old male in the 2004 Chevrolet was treated and transported to Hospital, and remains overnight at hospital. The 33-year old female driver of the 2005 Chevrolet pickup, 52-year old front seat passenger, 10-year old male and 48-year old female who were in the back seat were transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries, and remained in hospital overnight for observation.

The Wabowden RCMP were assisted by Thompson Traffic Analyst officer, the Wabowden Ambulance, Thompson Ambulance and Michelle Memorial Ambulance service out of Cross Lake, assisting in First Responders treatment and transportation of the injured occupants involved in the accident.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

Alcohol or speed is not considered  factors. Occupants in the 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck were believed to have been  wearing their seat belts. The occupants in the  2004 Chevrolet pickup truck may not have not been wearing their seat belts. Judgement at this time is the likely contributing factor in the cause of the accident.

No additional information is available at this time. The investigation continues.
