Investigation by the Winnipeg RCMP Financial Integrity Unit have led to charges being laid against two Peruvian Nationals in connection with counterfeit U.S. currency that was passed at a number of Winnipeg retailers during February and March of 2012.

38-year-old Oscar Villavicencio has been charged with five counts of uttering counterfeit currency. 24-year-old Edgar Rosales has been charged with nine counts of Uttering Counterfeit Currency.

Police say that the two men are currently in custody in Ontario after being arrested by Ontario Provincial Police on an unrelated matter.

Police continue to investigate.
