A Brandon man is dead following a head-on collision that occurred in the RM of North Norfolk earlier this morning.

On May 8, 2012, at about 7:30am, Portage la Prairie RCMP and local emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal two vehicle head-on collision on Highway 242, about 4 km south of the Trans Canada Highway in the RM of North Norfolk.

Initial investigation indicates that a 1997 Nissan Maxima was travelling south when it collided head-on with a north bound semi-trailer. Witnesses report that the Nissan Maxima crossed the center dividing line into the path of oncoming traffic. Police say that Highway 242 at this location is a two lane, undivided highway and that road conditions were in good condition.

The driver of the Maxima, a 21-year-old man from Brandon, Manitoba, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi, a 37-year-old man from the RM of North Norfolk, was not injured. There were no other persons or vehicles involved in the collision.

Police, along with an RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst are investigating.
