Virden RCMP seized a quanity of cocaine during a checkstop on the Trans-Canada Highway this past long weekend.

On May 19, 2012, at about 5:30pm, Virden RCMP made a cocaine seizure while conducting a checkstop in the area of the Trans-Canada Highway and PTH 256.

As part of a Canada Road Safety Week checkstop, RCMP officers stopped a westbound 2007 Pontiac G5. The adult male driver was discovered to be in violation of existing court conditions. Further investigation led to the discovery of approximately 252 grams of cocaine in the vehicle, with an estimated street value of $20,000.

22-year-old Christian Iyamuremye of Estevan, Saskatchewan, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and is scheduled to appear in Brandon Provincial Court on May 23, 2012.

Police continue to investigate.
