The Honourable Vic Toews, MP for Provencher, issued a challenge to his federal colleagues, urging them to each submit a recipe to the “Everyone Wins With Canadian Chicken” contest. The contest is put on by the Chicken Farmers of Canada, Maple Leaf, Food Banks Canada and The Hill Times.

“Across Canada many Canadians seek the help of food banks each and every month,” said MP Toews. “38 percent of those helped are children and youth. This contest gives Members of Parliament the opportunity to compete for a $10,000 donation to their local food bank.”

The “Everyone Wins With Canadian Chicken” campaign is open to all Members of Parliament. Recipes will be tested by a panel of judges and the winning entry will be selected based on appeal, originality and taste and will be served to over 10,000 people at the 20th Annual Great Canadian Chicken BBQ in Ottawa on July 1st.

The winning recipes will also receive donations to their local food bank.

• First Prize – $10,000 donation
• Second Prize – $5,000 donation
• Third Prize – $2,500 donation

“I urge all Members of Parliament to get an early start to the summer BBQ season by entering their chicken sandwich recipes and lending their voices to the support of this worthwhile cause,” added Toews. “I’m confident that my “Provencher” Pesto-Chicken Philly Melt recipe will stand up to those submitted by my colleagues.”

Recipes should include chicken breast grilled on a BBQ and served sandwich style (no fried or baked chicken). Contest closes at noon on May 31, 2012. Full contest details are available at contest.chicken.ca.
