Thanks to a report received by police, Central Plains RCMP made an arrest for impaired driving on the morning of August 21, 2012.

Just before 6am, police received a report of a possible impaired driver on Highway 1 in the RM of North Norfolk, Manitoba. Police patrolled the area and located the suspect vehicle traveling east on Highway 1. Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver, and lone occupant in the vehicle, was impaired and in possession of approximately 5 grams of cocaine, a small amount of marijuana and a number of Oxycontin pills.

A 27-year-old Winnipeg man was arrested for impaired driving as well as possession of a controlled substance. He has since been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie Provincial Court on October 22, 2012.

Police continue to investigate.

Police would like to remind motorists to continue to report impaired drivers. When you see a suspected impaired driver, pull over and call 911 or ask your passenger to make the call. Remember to provide as much information as possible. Include a licence plate number, make/model/colour of the vehicle, vehicle’s location and direction of travel as well as a description of the driver to the 911 operator. Working together we can take impaired driver’s off the roads and help to prevent possible tragedy.
