At about 11:00 pm on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 RCMP were called to a residence on Opaskwayak Cree Nation.  A male was reportedly highly intoxicated and was damaging the property.

RCMP attended and a 19-year-old man was located within the residence holding two knives to his own throat.  The man told police he wanted to die and was asking police to shoot him.  After 30 minutes of negotiation the man began to stab himself with the knives at various points on his body and a Taser was deployed by police.  The man was taken into custody without any further injury.  He was escorted to The Pas Health Complex for assessment of his injuries.  The man was not seriously injured, though he suffered self-inflicted stab wounds to the lower body.  The man was treated and released into police custody.

Alcohol was a factor in the incident.
