On September 6, 2012, at about 6:30pm, Yellowhead RCMP as well as local emergency services were dispatched to a vehicle rollover in the RM of Strathclair on Highway 16, about 7km east of Shoal Lake.

Investigation indicates that a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier with two occupants left the roadway and rolled over at least once, coming to rest upside down in a water filled ditch.

Police say that the driver, a 28-year-old man from British Columbia, was able to escape from the vehicle. The 26-year-old male passenger, also from British Columbia, was trapped in the submerged vehicle for several minutes before passing motorists were able to pull the car from the water with a truck and a tow rope.

The injured passenger was transported to hospital with what were reported to be life threatening injuries.

An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst attended to assist with the ongoing investigation.
