A Minitonas man is facing numerous dangerous driving charges after being involved in a recent street racing incident in Swan River, Manitoba.

At about 1:40am, on September 30, 2012, Swan River RCMP attended the scene of a single vehicle collision at the corner of Main Street and Highway 83 in Swan River.

Investigation has revealed that two vehicles were street racing at the time of the collision.

Police say that the driver of a 1994 Pontiac Grand AM, a 26-year-old Swan River man, was traveling north into Swan River at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate the eastbound merge lane onto Main Street from Highway 83. The driver then lost control and drove over the boulevard where he struck a metal light standard. He was then transported to the Swan Valley Hospital and later life flighted to Winnipeg in critical condition. Police say that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and speed was a contributing factor in the accident.

RCMP report that a second vehicle, a 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, was not involved in the collision. The driver of the second vehicle, 25-year-old Dallas Joseph Genaille of Minitonas, Manitoba, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while street racing. Genaille has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Swan River Provincial Court.

Swan River RCMP, an RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst and member of the RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team continue to investigate.
