City of Steinbach Mayor Chris Goertzen took the opportunity to highlight Steinbach’s infrastructure requirements to the Premier and cabinet on their first visit to the city in more than a decade.

City of Steinbach Mayor Chris Goerten and Greg Selinger, Premier of Manitoba.
The Mayor expressed specific concerns for the fastest growing city in the province, “We have a tremendous need for personal care home beds for seniors as well as improvements to highway intersections.” The growing region has seen increased traffic on provincial highways 12 and 52 within Steinbach, intensifying safety concerns. Mayor Goertzen also identified the need for recreation and cultural facilities.
“This visit is an opportunity to show first hand, the growth and challenges we face and the important role the provincial government can play to help improve quality of life for our citizens,” said Goertzen.
Mayor Goertzen is expected to meet with some of the ministers today to further discuss Steinbach’s needs as an expanding regional centre.
