On April 9, 2009, at about 7 p.m., members of the St. Pierre Jolys RCMP Detachment were dispatched to a single vehicle collision 1/2 mile east of Grunthal on Provincial Road 205 in the Rural Municipality of Hanover.

Investigation to date revealed the vehicle, a 2006 Ford F-150 extended cab, lost control and entered the south ditch where it rolled onto it’s roof. The vehicle was partly submerged in deep running water due to the spring runoff. An off-duty EMS attendant witnessed the incident and called 911. The EMS attendant assisted the four female occupants in exiting the vehicle. The 47-year-old man, who was a passenger in the front seat, was trapped and had to be extracted using the jaws of life. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The four female occupants were transported to hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor and the cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Further details, including the name of the deceased,  are not being released at this time.
