On Sunday, April 12th at 8:45 P.M. Swan River RCMP Detachment received a call of an overdue elderly couple who were traveling from their residence in Birch River Manitoba to their son’s residence south of Birch River and failed to show up.

Police investigation determined that the couple had tried to drive across a Ford Crossing on the Woody River and their car was swept into the river from flood waters.

The car was located approximately 500 Metres from the Ford Crossing in the River with no occupants.

Swan River RCMP, Swan River Fire Department, Birch River Fire Department, several family members, neighbors and a private pilot and plane provided assistance in conducting a search both on the river and along the shorelines. The body of the 79 year old female was located in the river by Search and Rescue teams.

The Ford Crossing on the Woody River is located approximately 15 miles North East of Swan River Manitoba.

The autopsy will be conducted at Brandon Hospital to determine the cause of death. The death is not considered suspicious.

Police and local resources are continuing their search for the missing 82 year old male.

No names are being released at this time.
