Treherne RCMP recently seized a quantity of contraband cigarettes and tobacco while investigating a Highway Traffic Act offence in the town of Rathwell, Manitoba.

On December 29, 2012, just after 12:30pm, police on patrol observed a 2004 Dodge Ram on Highway 2 in the town of Rathwell, Manitoba. The vehicle was stopped by police and investigated for a Highway Traffic Act offence. Subsequent investigation revealed that the lone occupant in the vehicle was in possession of 25 cartons of contraband cigarettes and 200 grams of contraband tobacco.

RCMP report that the 49-year-old female driver, a resident of Radville, Saskatchewan, was issued an offence notice under the Tax and Miscellaneous Taxes Act.

Police would like to remind the public that anyone with information regarding the sale or possession of contraband cigarettes is asked to call their local police agency or RCMP Detachment.
