On March 2, 2013, at about 3:30am, Swan River RCMP and Parkland EMS were dispatched to an assault with a weapon complaint in Shoal River, Manitoba.

Police say that a disagreement amongst three adult males outside of a residence led to an assault with an edged weapon. Two adult males received minor injury – wounds were superficial and non-life threatening. One victim was transported by EMS to Swan River hospital as a precaution – being treated and later released.

RCMP report that 47-year-old Richard Norman Simpson of Sapotaweyak Cree Nation has been charged with two counts of both assault with a weapon and breach of probation. Simpson was remanded to appear in Dauphin provincial court.
