City of Steinbach Waterworks staff were busy repairing a water main on Lumber Avenue and 1st Street today.
The leak was recognized by an abnormal drop in the asphalt surface at the intersection, tipping off workers that the issue was larger than just normal spring thaw. Investigative digging was completed and the leak identified. The problem was resolved by replacing the broken portion with a new section of pipe. Testing of the repaired main happened early this afternoon and water is expected to be turned back on shortly.
The City advises motorists to be cautious of the uneven road surface caused by the repair at the intersection. Once ongoing assessment ensures that there are no further leaks, the road surface will be fully repaired.
