On July 15, 2013, at about 12:30am, a shot from a high-powered rifle was fired into the Shamattawa RCMP Detachment in Shamattawa, Manitoba.

Police say that the bullet was found to have penetrated through the garage door of the prisoner loading bay as well as an interior wall before lodging into a wall in the lawyer/client telephone room.

RCMP report that there were a number of prisoners in cells at the time of the shooting and RCMP personnel working in the building, however, no one was injured.

With the assistance of information received from the public, RCMP investigators have arrested 32-year-old Ried Branford Hill, of Shamattawa. Hill has been charged with a number of Criminal Code offences for his alleged involvement, including careless use of a firearm, mischief over $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a weapon while prohibited.
