Two men are facing numerous drug related charges after being arrested in connection with two  grow-op discoveries suspected to be tied to organized crime.

Marijuana grow-op

Marijuana grow-op discovered by the RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit, assisted by the Manitoba East District Enforcement Team.

On August 1, 2013, the RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit, assisted by the Manitoba East District Enforcement Team, executed Control Drugs and Substances Act warrants on two private properties. The properties, located in the RM of St. Laurent and the RM of Woodlands, were each believed to have outdoor marijuana grows.

An investigation that began in late June 2013, resulted in two outdoor marijuana grows being taken down. Almost 600 marijuana plants were seized on the RM of St. Laurent property, along with a large utility trailer stolen out of Winnipeg. About 900 plants were seized in the RM of Woodlands site.

RCMP report that two males were arrested during the course of this investigation, one at each location. A 38-year-old Winnipeg man was arrested at the RM of Woodlands location and will face charges of production of a controlled substance (cannabis), possession for the purpose of trafficking (cannabis) and firearms related charges. A 34-year-old RM of St. Laurent man was arrested at the other site. He will also face production of a controlled substance (cannabis), possession for the purpose of trafficking (cannabis) and possessing stolen property over $5,000.

Police say that both individuals were released from custody to appear in Winnipeg court on September 26, 2013.

Organized crime is suspected in both these operations due to the sheer scale of the operations.
