On April 29, 2009 shortly after 6 p.m., the parents of a 22 month old boy who were en route to Hospital from the Sandy Bay First Nation, requested police assistance when their toddler, who had been sick, began experiencing irregular breathing patterns and stopped breathing.

The parents, who had contacted 911 and initiated CPR, drove to the RCMP Headingley Traffic office and sought some assistance. The RCMP Traffic member, who was in the office at the time, continued CPR until the ambulance arrived.

The boy was transported to Grace Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. An autopsy has been ordered at the Health Sciences Centre today. However, his death is not considered suspicious. The child had a serious medical condition. The names of those involved will not be released.
