An investigation by the Falcon Lake RCMP, that began with a report of a cottage fire in May 2007, has now resulted in two men being charged with arson and break and enter.

On May 2, 2007, shortly after 8am, Falcon Lake RCMP and the local Fire Department were dispatched to a cottage fire on Block 3, North Shore in Falcon Lake. RCMP and Fire arrived at the scene to find a cabin completely destroyed by fire.  The cabin had an estimated value of $270,000.

Police say that at the time, the investigation showed the cabin had been broken into, items had been removed and the fire had been deliberately set. While canvassing the area, it was discovered that five neighbouring cottages showed either signs of attempted forced entry or had been broken into.

After an extensive investigation, with the assistance of the RCMP “D” Division Major Crime Services and the RCMP Winnipeg Forensic Identification Section, two Winnipeg residents were arrested and have since been each charged with arson and three counts of break and enter with intent.

Both suspects are scheduled to appear in Steinbach Provincial Court.
