Steinbach Mayor, Chris Goertzen, will don a t-shirt and hand over a $100 donation to the Winkler Library, fulfilling his part in a wager with Winkler’s Mayor Harder. Earlier in the summer, the mayors threw down the gauntlet in support of their respective City’s summer reading programs.

“The results are in – congratulations to Winkler! Although Steinbach was not the winner, the kids in both cities should be incredibly proud of all the reading they have put in over the summer!” stated Goertzen.

Per the bet, Goertzen will wear a t-shirt provided by Mayor Harder which is currently being designed, for a full day including a council meeting. The donation and t-shirt exchange will take place at the Winkler Library on September 16.

“This is one wager I don’t mind losing. It is a fantastic program and helps prepare kids for the coming school year,” said Goertzen.

A total of 671 children took part in the summer reading program in Steinbach and read 510,750 minutes, checking out more than 22,000 books in just 7 weeks.
