The lemonade from four-year-old Riley Klassen’s lemonade stand will not only quench thirst, but also support those in need. On Thursday, August 29, Riley plans to set up a lemonade stand in support of Steinbach’s South East Helping Hands. A cup of lemonade will cost 50 cents, and for every cup sold, Riley’s grandfather, Ron Loeppky of Ron Loeppky Fairway Ford will donate an additional $2 toward the charity.

“When Riley and her mom Darci told me Riley’s plan to set up a lemonade stand, I suggested she do it in support of a good cause. We talked about the work that South East Helping Hands does, and how it gives food to those in need,” said Ron Loeppky, Riley’s grandfather and owner of Ron Loeppky Fairway Ford. “Riley loved the idea and said, ‘well all those people in need can have FREE lemonade!’ I knew then I wanted to do more to help and decided to donate $2 for every cup sold. With the help of those around us, we hope to sell 1,000 cups in support of those who need a little extra help in our community.”

Riley’s lemonade stand will be set up in front of Vivid Hair at 359 Main Street in Steinbach on August 29, 2013 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. With the help of her mom, her aunt and her grandfather, Riley hopes to generate more than $2,000 for South East Helping Hands.

“We get excited when we hear about young people like Riley who are taking steps to help others and better their communities,” said Hank Klassen, Chair of South East Helping Hands. “We rely solely on the support of the community for food and resources, which we in turn pass on to those in need. Events like Riley’s lemonade stand go a long way in helping us fill our shelves and continue reaching out to those around us.”

South East Helping Hands is a non-profit organization which helps those in need by providing groceries free of charge. The organization relies solely on community donations. If you would like to find out more about helping hands, or make a donation in support of its important work, visit sehh.ca.
